Our Values

“He gave some as apostles, some as prophets, some as evangelists, some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the building up of the body of Christ.”

Ephesians 4:1-16 (NRSVue)

CHORD Values

CHORD envisions a future church culture rooted in spirituality and giftedness that nurtures and matures faith communities towards fullness in Christ in both current and next-generation collaborative contexts.

We embrace a vision of holistic biblical leadership that is grounded in the ministry and the teachings of Jesus. This vision involves meeting the present needs of the church while envisioning a healthy future for God’s global community. CHORD is committed to help disciples recognize and develop their unique gifts to glorify God, edify the church, and reach the world for Jesus.

  • Galatians 5:25, Matthew 22:37-39, Matthew 28:18-20

At the heart of our formation is the spiritual life– becoming more like Jesus in heart and character. We believe spirituality and giftedness must be nurtured together, with humility, growth, and dependence on the Spirit shaping every stage of development. Scripture is approached not only analytically but devotionally, engaging the mind, heart, and soul for genuine transformation. We honor the great cloud of witnesses who have gone before us, learning from the richness of the Christian tradition while walking this journey in authentic community. Spiritual growth is understood as a lifelong process, marked by mountaintops and wilderness seasons alike, where individuals are encouraged at their own pace as God faithfully forms Christlike character within them.

  • Proverbs 9:9

We strive to cultivate a posture of lifelong learning marked by curiosity, reflection, and openness to growth. We value engagement with rich spiritual and intellectual resources, ask thoughtful questions, and think critically about faith, leadership, and ministry. Through dialogue, healthy disagreement, and exposure to diverse perspectives and cultures, individuals learn to examine assumptions and form convictions with both conviction and humility. We emphasize understanding the deeper “why” behind leadership so that motivation flows from within, while fostering a safe community where exploration, research, and reflection are welcomed. Learner’s humility recognizes that formation never ends. Leaders remain teachable, attentive to God and others, and committed to continual growth in wisdom, understanding, and Christlike character.

  • Ephesians 2:10

We seek to form people who understand both who they are and whose they are. Rooted in grace, each person is affirmed as God’s workmanship, bearing the image of God and called to live from belonging rather than performance. Through reflection, spiritual practices, and honest self-examination, individuals grow in self-awareness, humility, and the freedom to learn from mistakes and failures. Open dialogue, thoughtful questions, and careful study are encouraged so that faith becomes personally owned rather than merely inherited. By engaging Scripture, Christian history, and the wider tradition, people discover their unique calling within God’s ongoing story and learn to extend the same grace to others that they themselves have received.

  • John 13:34-35

We believe spiritual formation takes place in community, where people grow through shared life, mutual encouragement, and collaborative service. Healthy leadership is learned within teams that value diverse gifts, shared responsibility, and the wisdom that emerges through relationship. We seek to cultivate environments marked by trust, humility, and belonging, where individuals support one another, work together toward common purpose, and practice honest communication. Ministry is understood not as a status or role, but as a shared calling of the whole community, breaking down divisions and inviting every person to participate in the life and mission of the church.

  • Romans 12:6-8

We affirm that God equips each person with unique gifts, callings, and capacities for service. Spiritual formation includes helping individuals discern these gifts and learn how to use them faithfully alongside others whose strengths differ from their own. Through mentorship, guidance, and meaningful opportunities to serve, people are encouraged to grow in confidence, competence, and humility as they steward what God has entrusted to them. The goal is not uniformity, but harmony—diverse gifts working together for the good of the community and the mission of God.

  • 1 Peter 4:11

We prepare leaders for faithful and effective service by cultivating practical skills alongside spiritual maturity and character. Through mentorship, hands-on experience, and guided practice, individuals learn to teach, communicate, organize, and care for others in real-life settings. We believe leaders should be equipped in public communication, leadership duties, administration, and the ability to navigate important life moments within community. Constructive feedback and reflection are essential, creating a culture where people both give and receive counsel with humility. Healthy communication and conflict resolution are emphasized so that leaders grow not only in capability, but also in wisdom, integrity, and relational maturity.

  • Matthew 20:26-28, Philippians 2:4-5

We believe leadership is shaped by the life and example of Jesus, whose way is marked by humility, service, compassion, and self-giving love. Leaders are called to follow Christ not through status or authority, but through sacrificial care for others, especially the hurting and marginalized. Grounded in grace, they seek to love God and neighbor, participate in Christ’s mission, and help others grow as faithful disciples. Christocentric leadership therefore joins proclamation with compassion—teaching, serving, and sharing the good news of God’s kingdom so that people may experience the mercy and transformation we ourselves have received.
